Mascot Contest

Submissions for the mascot contest have now closed. Thank you to all the artists for your participation!

NOTICE: Due to the COVID-19 cancellation, the mascot entries submitted to this contest will be used for 2022 instead of being used for 2021. The theme and all deadlines remain the same. The only difference is that the winner will get to choose to have a booth at the 2021 convention (as originally advertised) OR have a booth at the 2022 convention (where their art will be used). Thank you for your understanding, and for your entries!

Submitted mascots must include the theme for KuroNekoCon 2021, “Japanese Summer Festival”. Mascot must include a human full body figure as well as our cat mascot, Tsuki. Tsuki must be portrayed as a black or dark gray cat with yellow-green eyes and green paint on the tip of her tail.

Artwork and characters created must be original compositions exclusive to this contest entry at the time of submission, and cannot be depicted in any artwork that is to be sold prior to KuroNekoCon 2021.

Submissions may not include: Backgrounds, text, copyright protected characters, animations, nudity (implied or actual), drug paraphernalia or other content that is not family friendly in nature.

Prizing

1st Place:

  • Complimentary booth in the 2021 Artist’s Alley
  • $150 monetary prize
  • Artwork will be used as official image on 2021 convention badges
  • Artwork may be used as official image on 2021 merchandise
  • Artwork will be used on the 2021 website, facebook page, and additional online promotions
  • Select KNC merchandise

2nd Place:

  • $50 monetary prize
  • Select KNC Merchandise
  • Artwork may be used as a supplementary official image for KuroNekoCon 2021

3rd Place:

  • $50 monetary prize
  • Select KNC Merchandise
  • Artwork may be used as a supplementary official image for KuroNekoCon 2021

Judging

The final winning mascot will be chosen by vote of KNCA Staff. The contest ends May 31st, 2020 at 11:59:59 P.M. The new mascot for KNC 2021 will be revealed at KNC 2020 closing ceremonies.

No artist may win 1st place two (2) years in a row.

File Requirements

Images must be a PNG, PDF, AI, or EPS
File name must be in format: “2021_MascotContest_ArtistName”
Images must have a transparent background.
Images must be at least 9000 pixels tall. There is no required width.

Images received that do not meet these requirements will still be printed in the yearly booklet, but are not eligible to win the mascot contest.

File Submission

By submitting artwork, you grant permission to KuroNeko Cultural Association and it’s agents and staff the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce, print, and electronically distribute the images that you have submitted. You release KuroNeko Cultural Association and it’s legal representatives for all claims and liability relating to said images or video.

Artists may not post their entries anywhere online before the end of the contest, including on KNC social media pages.

Mascot(s) must be submitted to us by: May 31st, 2020 11:59:59 PM PST (Pacific Standard Time).

Any entries or entrants found not adhering to the guidelines and rules outlined on this page will be disqualified from the competition.
