Japan Week Spokane 2015

KuroNekoCon welcomes you to Japan Week Spokane, April 17-26, 2015! Now in it's 22nd year, Japan Week is a time to raise awareness of the rich variety of Japanese cultural treasures that are available to be experienced throughout the year in the Spokane Community. This year for Japan Week, KuroNekoCon will be bringing you multiple Anime, Manga, and Cosplay related events for all different age groups. KNC's Cosplay Fashion Show and Neon Nyan Dance Party

Come on out to strut your stuff on the catwalk and compete for fabulous prizes, or just come check out the cosplay! Starting out the night is a special performance by our guest Suzaku Taiko. After the fashion show, the lights go down and the glowsticks come out! DJ Maddox and DJ Vumen X will bring the Neon Nyan Dance to life and get the party pumping! Concessions and Glowsticks will be sold for your enjoyment!

We have fantastic prizes compliments of The Comic Book Shop in the form of some pretty great gift certificates! Also we have some fantastic Trophies to go along with all these fantastic prizes to keep the memory of your big win forever! Here is this year's prize support:

KNC’s Children’s Festival

Honoring the tradition of Tango no Sekku, a Japanese children's festival that celebrates children's personalities and happiness, kids will be able to enjoy fun Japanese children's games, crafts, and stories. Some examples of our crafts including making paper koinobori flags or carp flags, origami paper folding, a tutorial on how to use chopsticks, lantern making, japanese folk-tale story telling, beginners kendama playing, and coloring of children's anime characters! All ages are welcome to come play with us!

Date: Saturday April 18th

Manga Social: A Lesson In Manga

Sponsored in part by the Northtown Comic Book Shop!

A class on basic Manga (Japanese comic art) techniques taught by local young artists. The artists will first show you the basics of how to draw a typical manga-style face, followed by more specific demos on different aspects of Manga. Demos change yearly depending on the guest artists' skills. The latter portion of the class will be a Q & A session and drawing games. After the demos, bring your own manga to swap! Come meet others who share an interest in manga, swap manga and recommendations, and maybe pick up a couple new skills or a new book!

The Northtown Comic Book Shop will also be offering a 10% discount on all merchandise to anyone who mentions “Japan Week” during the entirety of Japan Week Spokane!

Cosplay Chess Demo at the Tsutakawa Japanese Garden Festival

Cosplay chess is a game of human chess performed by players in  costume. Short performances, fights, and skits between the battling players decide the outcome of the game.

Price: Free

Date: Sunday April 26th

Time: Intermixed with other demos

Location: Manito Park; 21st at Bernard Street


   

KNC's 2016 Mascot Contest

Attention Artists! Its time to put your creativity to work! KNC is now accepting submissions for it’s 2016 Mascot Contest! This year’s theme is fruit! Submissions must be full body characters with Otaku Cat in the original cat form somewhere in the image. Prizes for this contest include your design featured as the mascot of our 2016 convention (meaning it's going to be EVERYWHERE!), a free, guaranteed spot in our 2016 artist alley, select KNC merchandise, and additional prizes donated by our sponsors!
